Somewhere in the middle of the Samalayuca dunes, a protected reserve in the Ejido de Villaluz, Chihuahua, Mexico around 30 yoga enthusiasts gathered for a unique class.
Surrounded by the sandy desert landscape, the group, predominantly made of up middle-aged persons and retirees practised yoga in one of Mexico's most beautiful reserves.
“We are in the Samalayuca dunes, in the Ejido de Villaluz. This is a protected area, a protected reserve, a protected space and one of the most beautiful places in the state of Chihuahua,” said yoga teacher and event organiser Mauricio Rivera.
Guadalupe Ayala, a 65-year-old retired physician, shared her experience, describing it as an opportunity for mindfulness and connection, where "each granite that a person makes resonates everywhere, it's like, it's not just a drop, it's a drop that expands.
Participants who were clad in white told AFP that practising in the middle of the desert was a means to connect with nature in the purest way possible.
