Vietnam is introducing golf in its primary school curriculum for the first time in the country's history.

Starting in January 2025, Hanoi's To Vinh Dien Primary School will become the first public school in Vietnam to teach golf.

A total of 857 students will learn the sport for free, with equipment provided.

Headmistress Ha Ngoc Lan said the program is a collaboration with the Vietnam Golf Promotion and Development Center and the Vietnam Golf Association.

"I want to bring golf into the curriculum as it is international. I want to be a pioneer," she was quoted as saying.

According to her, golf helps students develop patience, discipline, and focus while improving communication skills.

The golf lessons will run until summer, after which the school will review the program and gather feedback from parents and students to make any future adjustments.

Vu Anh Long, director of the Junior Golf Development Project, said To Vinh Dien is the first public school and the second school in Vietnam to join the program.

"The goal is to popularise golf, and through it, its educational value. It's also to find young talents," he said.
