UK's new PM Keir Starmer hosts historic visit with Ukraine’s Zelensky: Video

Newly appointed UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer welcomed President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky on Friday, July 19, to 10 Downing Street in London, the official residence and office of the UK Prime Minister.

Zelensky is the first foreign leader to visit the British Prime Minister’s residence since the leader of the Labour Party assumed office two weeks ago.

Starmer assured Zelenskyy of the UK government’s continued support to Ukraine despite the change of government.

“We support the previous government. We are united in our parliament in our support for Ukraine. We may want to make sure that the commitment is increased. We announced some of that in the last two weeks,” he said.

The Ukraine President will be the first foreign leader to address the UK Cabinet since Bill Clinton in 1997 and the first this century.

“You will be the first leader from another country to address the Cabinet later on today, This century. So it's a very special moment for us to be able to welcome you here to reiterate our support for you and the Ukrainian people in the fight against Russia,” Starmer added.

“Thank you for the invitation. The UK has been with us from the very beginning of this war of full-scale war. We feel the support,” Zelensky said.

In an earlier post on his official X account, the UK Prime Minister said, “I won't allow Russia's shadow fleet of oil tankers, and the dirty money it generates, to flow freely through European waters and put our security at risk.”

“Ukraine is, and always will be, at the heart of my government’s agenda,” he added.
