South Korea sees unprecedented November snow: Video
Seoul experienced its heaviest November snowfall in over 100 years, covering the capital in white for the second day since November 27.
The snow piled up to 40 cm in some areas, while nearby regions saw even higher amounts. It was also the first snowfall of the season for the city.
Many residents defied the cold to enjoy the rare sight.
“Since it was snowing, I got a bit excited. I thought I might be able to see some beautiful scenery, even if it’s just for a short while," Park Joon-yeong, an IT worker, said.
However, the snowfall has disrupted daily life, leading to the death of three persons in the Gyeonggi province around Seoul.
Over 100 flights were cancelled, ferry services were halted, and driving was difficult.
Authorities have since deployed 11,000 workers and 20,000 snow-removal machines to clear the streets.
The weather also caused temporary power cuts in several areas as officials worked to restore electricity, with nearly half of the outages fixed by Wednesday night.
The Korean Meteorological Administration said the snow advisory in Seoul has been lifted, but snowfall continues in southern regions at around one centimetre per hour. Authorities are monitoring the situation closely as winter weather persists.
