North Korean officials gathered at the Mausoleum of King Tangun in Pyongyang to commemorate Foundation Day, marking the establishment of Korea's first state in 2333 BC.

The event celebrates Tangun, the mythical figure credited with founding the Korean nation.

North Korea claims that the mausoleum holds Tangun’s remains, though no independent verification of the site has been conducted since its construction in the 1990s.

The mausoleum is a symbol of Korean heritage, emphasising the nation's ancient roots, as North Korea continues to hold on to its historical narrative.

Foundation Day remains a relevant cultural event in the country, celebrated with reverence for its legendary past leaders. Activities on the day include visits to statues of Kim Il Sung and his mausoleum, performances, sports competitions, folk dances, and fireworks.
