Hilda Effiong Bassey who was the longest cooking marathon winner has been challenged by an Irish chef who has replaced her as the new title holder.

Popularly known as Hilda Baci, the Nigerian was given the global honour after organising a Guinness World Record "cookathon" from May 11 to 15 in Lagos and cooked over a hundred pots of food during the period, clocking a total of 93 hours, and 11 minutes.

Holding a new record of 119 hours, 57 minutes, Irish chef Alan Fisher is now the acclaimed longest cooking marathon (individual) in the Guinness World Record titles.

Announcing this on their official website, the Guinness World Record in a statement said Alan had broken two cooking-related titles including the longest baking marathon (individual).

“First up, he's claimed the longest cooking marathon (individual) after clocking in a time of 119 hours 57 minutes. That is more than 24 hours longer than the previous record held by Nigerian chef Hilda Baci.

“Alan then claimed the longest baking marathon (individual), with a time of 47 hours 21 minutes. The previous record holder was Wendy Sandner (USA) with a time of 31 hours 16 minutes.

“What's even more impressive is that Alan took on both attempts back to back, meaning he was at work in the kitchen for over 160 hours with just over a day of rest in between!” the statement said.

Baci in a post reacting to the new record congratulated the new champion, wishing him the best of luck.

Nigerians have since been reacting to the development on social media platform X.
