Ireland’s opposition leader says asylum seeker accommodation should not be in the most deprived areas: Video

The leader of Ireland’s joint-largest party and main opposition party, Sinn Fein has spoken against the location of accommodation centres for asylum seekers in the most deprived communities in Ireland.

Speaking during the launch of the party’s migration policy, Mary Lou McDonald indicated that she had communicated with the Taoiseach Simon Harris, who is the Irish leader to rectify the situation to avoid further violence and community anger.

“The government now need to get their act together. I think they need to win very, very swiftly because what has been created is a very unacceptable situation of community anger and deep frustration, which is well grounded, may I say, but also a scenario where others, a small element but a dangerous element, are now stirring the pot. We've seen violence. We've seen injuries, security guard, members of the Guard, members of the public. We want that to stop. We want we want to up to be a safe time, the place where people are listened to migration policy, centred on consultation and an audit of public services,” she was quoted by the AFP.
