In a message to the Iran International news channel, on Tuesday, December 12, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Australia condemned the social media posts of the Iranian ambassador describing them as anti-Israeli and anti-Semitic.
Ahmad Sadeghi, the ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Australia, repeatedly called for the destruction of Israel on his X social media account after the October 7 attack by Hamas on Israel.
In response, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Australia issued a message stating that "Everyone should be able to live without fear and intimidation", and all diplomats in the country were asked to "act respectfully and constructively in the way they interact with Australia."
The message reiterated: "There is no place for anti-Semitism in Australia."
The ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran, who has repeatedly called Israel a war criminal wrote in a tweet on October 27 with a graphic image of an Israeli tank and a tunnel full of Hamas forces: "Welcome to the swamp and say hello to your end. God willing!"
On October 29, he described the Palestinians as victims of a "real holocaust" and called the Israeli army a "terrorist apparatus".
Claire Chandler, senator and assistant foreign minister in the shadow government, previously called his statements a "promotion of the shameful and dangerous content of the embassy of the Islamic Republic in Australia".
The Jewish community of Australia has also expressed concern over his statements.
